The statistical data we collected from 219 public perfume formulas suggests that the mean dose for coumarin is 1.0%. The typical lower limit is 0.50%, and the usual higher limit is 2.0%. The highest amount of coumarin we encountered in any single formula is 7.5%, and the lowest was 0.0070%.
Please note that according to the IFRA Standard Category 4, the level of coumarin should not exceed 1.5% of the final product. Assuming that you will be using your formula for an alcoholic perfume at a 10% dilution, this means you should only use coumarin at 15% or less of the formula.
